leaving Babylon

slave in his chains in his prison
in a dark and lonely cell
of his hope he knows too little
in the fear he knows too well
world is spinning somewhere
out there out of time and out of place
says a prayer in just a whisper
free me now oh hand of Grace

   and the shackles fall away
   and the locks break open
   and his prayer is answered
   by the soft words spoken
   and the bars disappear
   and the night is gone
   and now i'm leaving Babylon

back to the homeland
there's a temple to rebuild
where temptation is banished
where the wandering soul is stilled
and the words all foretold
see them play out in the day
freedom promised and delivered
when I chose to walk away

   and the shackles fall away
   and the locks break open
   and his prayer is answered
   by the soft words spoken
   and the bars disappear
   that were there too long
   and now i'm leaving Babylon

demons held me tightly
where I could not even move
how low could I go
was the only thing I had to prove
see the face in the mirror
was it me I could not tell
til the power of heaven
freed me from a bitter hell

   and the shackles fall away
   and the locks break open
   and his prayer is answered
   by the soft words spoken
   and the bars disappear
   hear the rising freedom song
   and now i'm leaving Babylon
