Mike's March Thru Georgia - And How You Can Be A Part of it!

Thanks for visiting my site. My name is Mike Rucker, and I volunteer with a group called The Elizabeth Foundation. The Elizabeth Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit service organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless individuals who live on the streets, in encampments, under bridges, and in the abandoned buildings of Atlanta. These are people struggling with mental illness, addiction, poverty, hunger, and abuse.

A friend of mine showed me a website of two guys who are biking across America - one a white conservative, one a black liberal - to show that our country can still be united if both sides truly make the effort. And that's a pretty big effort they're making - biking all the way across the USA! Wow!

I love to walk, and while finding a partner and walking across America is not feasible for me now, I decided to do something a little different. Interstate I75 runs 355.1 miles through Georgia, from the Florida border northward to the point it enters Tennessee. While I cannot actually walk I75, I am making a commitment to walk that distance from September 18th, 2022 thru election day November 8th, 2022, to raise awareness for Atlanta's homeless. Fifty-two days, three hundred and fifty miles. I will need to average roughly 7 miles a day, or 13,000+ steps on my wrist counter, to complete the trek. I will walk my usual routes around the apartment complex where I live in Sandy Springs - on Roswell Road, on Morgan Falls Road, in the Big trees Preserve, on Spalding Drive and Roberts, and in a few subdivisions here and there that I venture into. I will post my daily step count, mileage count, and an approximation of what exit I've reached.

But I want you to participate!

The Elizabeth Foundation is seeing the needs of the homeless grow daily, and while we are a strong group of volunteers, we have very little money with which to do what we do.

I am asking you to donate at The Elizabeth Foundation donation link for every mile I walk, or a single amount for walking all three hundred and fifty five miles. Ten cents a mile would be $35; a quarter for each mile $88. Or you can really reach deep and donate $1 per mile for $355.  Any amount is appreciated, and goes to pay for food, clothing, tents, health appointments, transportation, and transitional housing.

Please contribute directly at The Elizabeth Foundation website; no funds should be sent to me. I will post information daily, along with articles I find or write related to the plight of the homeless in America.

Please be a part of this. Head over to The Elizabeth Foundation's website and make a donation. Underneath the donation amount you'll see, 'Write a note'; please click on that and enter, "For Mike's March Thru Georgia."

And thank you for helping your community!
