The Lord Will Provide

Jesus, I am reminded tonight of a song I used to lead in church back in Scottsdale (too) many years ago.

'Jehovah Jireh':

My God shall supply all my needs
According to his riches in glory
He shall give his angels charge over thee
Jehovah Jireh cares for me, for me, for me
Jehovah Jireh cares for me.

Looking past the poor transliteration that gave us 'Jehovah', and our insistence on singing 'j' as 'g', it's one of those uptempo, E-minor songs that we played all in succession, almost becoming our own 'Hava nagila' out in the desert Southwest. It's a good, driving song that almost spurs white people to start clapping - of course, clapping *wrongly* on beats one and three, but that's just the way white people clap. Forgive us, Father, for we have sinned...

But I'm reminded of it because I saw you provide yesterday - heck, I see you provide everyday, and I try to process through those moments of awareness every morning as I journal a gratitude list. The needs here on earth - even those in my own admittedly limited sphere of influence - are incredibly great. Like the certainty of the sun rising and setting, and the tide coming in and going out, we humans offer an endless array of needs, and Jehovah Jireh meets them with his own endless supply.

But thank you that I don't face all of these hurts and wounds and lack and loneliness alone, that you've raised up others with hearts of concern and compassion to make sharing the burden the better alternative than simply bearing the burden. Thank you for your protection and your provision, and help me to be ever aware of your presence.

The Lord will provide.

Amen.
